Ann Arbor Civic Theatre’s Season Kickoff Starring … YOU!

In a typical September, we’d be wowing audiences with a big musical production at the Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre. Our cast and crew would have been in rehearsals since July and the membership would be abuzz with excitement for our 91st season. This year, we’re forced to do something a bit different. Our September kickoff will feature … YOU!

This true community performance comes as a “Perform-a-thon”. Participate in 3 easy steps:

  1. Record yourself performing a song to a track, a monologue, a dance or creative piece. Submissions can be solos, duets, small groups or households.
  2. Send your submission and a brief bio to
  3. Encourage friends and family to “vote” for you by sharing the A2CT Facebook Donation link.

Submissions must be received no later than 9:00pm Sunday, September 13.

We will feature one video each day with a Facebook Donation link. You share the link to your social media accounts and encourage friends and family to “vote”.

All submissions will be entered in a drawing for an A2CT prize pack including vouchers for future tickets, gift cards for local eateries, A2CT swag and more. The winner will receive an A2CT prize pack, one year membership and acknowledgement in A2CT publications and social media.

Thank you for sharing your time and talent with us … we can’t wait to see what this season opener looks like!

Friends, families and supporters of Ann Arbor Civic Theatre: Do you miss performances as much as we do? We have been working hard behind the scenes to create innovative ways to fulfill our mission of encouraging community involvement in live theatre while being expressly unable to undertake active productions.

Enter our newest venture: the Your Theatre Your Town Play Reading Group. This new endeavor will operate much like a book group. We’ll kick things off on Friday, September 25 at 7pm, with 2011 Pulitzer Prize and 2012 Tony Award winner Clybourne Park by Bruce Norris. Sallie Love, an A2CT director, Board member and dramaturg, will select excerpts from the play to read aloud and co-facilitate the discussion with fellow Board member and The Play’s The Thing producer Catherine Zudak.

Our facilitated discussion and scene reading will take place via Zoom on Friday, September 25 beginning at 7:00pm. Register here to participate and receive the Zoom link. If you are unable to join us this month, additional Play Reading Group plays and dates will be announced over the course of our 2020-2021 season.

We are excited to launch this new project with a play that has been called “Vital, sharp-witted and ferociously smart.” —NY Time and “A theatrical treasure…Indisputably, uproariously funny.” —Entertainment Weekly.

For October, we’re looking to read a new work. Are you a playwright? Do you know a playwright? Submit 10-minute plays to be considered for the October meeting to no later than Friday, September 11, 2020. Submissions with previous productions are welcome.

A2CT Facilities Committee Meeting

The A2CT Facilities Committee will be meeting virtually on September 1st from 4:30-6pm. Complete the form here to receive the meeting link.

The committee will We discuss the current prioritized projects lists (desired and dream) as well as the required steps to being Covid-compliant.
